There is much to do for today’s physicians and more of their work is becoming administrative as compared to clinical. Time needs to be given to upgrade and perfect the electronic billing processes, staying updated with medical billing services  such as billing, coding and compliance requirements. Billing and collecting enough in order to stay profitable. Other tasks consist of finding ways to stay compliant with HIPAA privacy and security standards without disrupting their workflows.

These factors have sharply increased the need for experienced and certified coding and billing professionals. Private practices, physician groups, hospitals and clinics cannot afford mistakes in coding but still many of them do not have the time or the resources to bill the patients properly and accurately thus as a result creating a demand for outsourced medical companies.

The question is whether to keep the medical billing in-house or outsource, it all depends on the doctors and the practice managers. The correct answer differs from practice to practice depending on number of factors such as practice finances, age of business and size of local labor.

Apart from clinical services, revenue cycle management and billing are one of the most important aspects of the practice. The practices cash flow depends on them and the decision on how to handle these services needs to be given a good thought. Practice need to perform assessments of their staff, costs and volume metrics to decide what is right for them.

In the early stage of the decision making process, practices need to take a generalized look on the benefits of outsourcing the billing.

Outsource Medical Billing

  • Less Expensive:  If a practice is just starting up their business or are in the process of a transformation then outsourcing the billing would make the most financial sense.
  • Transparency: The medical billing company would be able to provide the practices with detailed performance reports periodically or on its request. This will give the practice staff an in depth visibility in their billing operations without requiring the need to micromanage.
  • Improved Consistency: According to the contract the practice’s outsourcer will be compel to offer the practice some value added services. Also the practices don’t need to worry about staffing as it will be the outsourcer’s job to provide that.
