Practice Size
The number of practice size is important when buying EHR
software. OB/GYN specific software can create limitation on the number of the physicians
it can have. Some companies cater both small to large scale practice while some
only allow small scale practices to use specialty specific software. Select software
which can cater everyone including front desk staff, administrative staff and
medical practitioners.
ONC Certification
Make sure when buying EHR software it meets the
requirements, standards and certifications set by the Office of the National
Coordinator (ONC). ONC set these standards so that practices must meet
Meaningful Use standards. Those practices that are unable to meet these
standards and criteria can lose income or may incur penalties as well.
Infrastructure of
Medical Practice
Practices need to decide whether they want to host their medical
records data on a local on-site server or they want to store it off-site to a
third party provider. Maintaining an on-site server will not help in having significant
savings because the practice needs to hire a network administrator to maintain
the network.
Features of OB/GYN
Software
OB/GYN uses a specific set of codes. Software designed for
the OB/GYN practices should allow a simple processing of ICD and CPT codes. Other
features like databases of genetic abnormalities should be included in the
software. Make a list of needs and requirements of your practice and look for EHR
software that meets these requirements.
Customization
EHR software is usually designed containing the templates
specific to that particular practice for which it is initially designed. If a
practice wants to customize the software further to its needs, then it should
select a medical company that can provide the practice with that facility.
